2 In the Gospel of John EGO EIMI (I am) with no complement clause appears in 8:24, 28, 58 and 13:19. These four usages differ from one another in meaning and reference. They are commonly grouped into two, one that makes reference to Exodus 3:14, and the other to Isaiah 43:10. By depending on some recent research and by examining a key word TUFLOS (blind), this article shows that all these usages are influenced by Deutero-Isaiah, especially by the chapters 42 and 43. It is possible, however, to interpret 8:58 as existence and relate it with Exodus. Moreover, since the concept of Pre-existence of the Son implied in 8:58 can be discerned in other texts of the same period, and since the Gospel of John and Deutero-Isaiah share an identical historical background, this article argues that a substantiation of a new divine authority can be discerned behind EGO EIMI. ego eimi E.
