Although there is scientific knowledge of service, there is scarcely any knowledge of service return. In particular, research about a receiver s position during return has not been conducted. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine differences the receiver s position and its variability when awaiting service by skilled and unskilled badminton players. The results of this study may provide beneficial knowledge for novice players. The participants were skilled and novice players. Findings indicate that novice players stood closer to the short service line than skilled players. It was also found that the CV Coefficient of Variation) of the position in novice players was larger than in skilled players. CV of the position on x-axis in novice players was negatively correlated with the rate of success of return for receiving short service. Based on these results it is suggested that proper positioning guidance should be given to novice badminton players. Such guidance may lead to enhanced success rates of return among novice players.
