Detection of Chlamydia trachomatis from Patients with Primary and Secondary Syphilis Mariko Seishima, Satoshi Okumura and Michihiro Ohtani Department of Dermatology, Gifu Prefectural Gifu Hospital 4-6-1 Noishiki, Gifu, Japan Megumi Watanabe, Ryo Matsumoto, Masayoshi Tsutsumi and Kazumasa Hikichi Special Reference Laboratories 51 Komiya-cho, Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan Key words : Chlamydia trachomatis SyphilisMicro Trak It was attempted to detect Chlamydia trachomatis from urethral smear of male and from cervical specimens of female by FITC-labeled monoclonal antibody (Micro TrakTM Direct Specimen Test). C. trachomatis was detected from 8 (33.3%) of 24 female with primary or secondary syphilis and from 1 (11.1%) of 9 male in the Dermatological Clinic of Gifu Prefectural Gifu Hospital from January 1985 to March 1986. Chlamydia-positive patients were treated with minocycline 100mg twice daily for seven days. Three weeks after the treatment, reexamination of the test for all the patients revealed free of C. trachomatis.
