How the 100- yen Breakfast at Ritsumeikan University Affects Undergraduate Students Who Normally Skip This Meal KUSUOKU Shigenori *, YOSHIKAWA Naoki **, KAIZAKI Aya ***, FUJIWARA Natsumi ****, MATSUBARA Toyohiko ***** Abstract Since many undergraduate students skip breakfast, some universities have recently stated to offer the 100- yen breakfast service. In association with the Educational Supporters Association of Parents, Ritsumeikan University problematized the tendency to skip breakfast, and changed the price of a set breakfast at its cafeteria from 260 yen to 100 yen on October 21, 2013. This paper is to demonstrate that: (1) Not only undergraduate students who live alone, but also undergraduate students who live with their parents tend to skip breakfast after entering university: and (2) The 100- yen breakfast is a method to eliminate the problem of undergraduate students habit of skipping breakfast. To discuss (1), we verify two hypotheses: (h1) The tendency to skip breakfast of undergraduate students who live alone worsens after entering university: (h2) The tendency to skip breakfast of undergraduate students who live with their parents worsens after entering university.
