6756 福島大学地域創造 第22巻 第1号 2010.9 理工系研究留学生のカタカナ語学習の効率化を意図した調査分析 Comments on Effective Learning of Katakana Words Commonly Used in Japanese Scientific and Technical Papers Osamu NITTONO and Akiko TAKEDA Learning of Japanese is necessary for foreign graduate students, who are eager to understand scientific and technical Japanese papers, and then to start research activities in Japan as soon as possible. This study analyzed practical usage of katakana words, taking into consideration of characteristics of katakana words used in Japanese books including scientific and technical papers, together with our previously proposed learning methods. It was shown that effective learning methods must consider several points including detailed analysis on characteristics of katakana words, and also their selection principle reasonable for practical learning is important when preparing text books of technical Japanese terms for research students from especially non-kanji countries. We also proposed several effective how-to leraning techniques for premitive katakana words ⑴ Deep-understanding and accumulation of vocabularies of primitive Japanese words is basically necessary, with understanding that katakana word usually used is not always true Japanese, ⑵ Deep-understanding of katakana words mainly used in scientific fields concerning their reseach projects is also preferable, ⑶ Perfect usage of katakana words must be restricted within a reasonable degree of katakana expression to be learned, ⑷ Use of katakana words followed with their original foreign words is always desirable for true understanding of their meanings.
