After this survey, we were able to continue the study thanks of the research grant of Socio-Cultural Research Institute. Our study puts importance not only on the analysis of individual sexual consciousness and sexual behavior but also on that of the discourses and images of sex in contemporary Japanese society. There are many studies that have been done on gender and gender equality in Japan. However, not much attention has been paid to sexuality, such as the ability of sexual self determination, sexual double standard, and sexual communication. There are not many studies of sexual consciousness and sexual behavior that have been done, especially for heterosexuals in Japan. However, sexual behavior of heterosexuals itself is in fact problematic. They tend to see their discourses and images of sexuality as self-evident especially because they constitute the majority of Japanese society. We started this research with special attention paid to this point. We also think it s a crisis that there are not many universities that have sexual education programs. The spread of STDs and sexual violence among students and many problems of dating DV, date rape and group rape, are reported in our society. Facing this situation, we thought it is necessary to draw a picture that shows the reality of sexual behavior of university students. However, avoiding the risk of sexual problems such as unexpected pregnancy, STDs, and sexual violence is not the only issue for sex education at university. We put more importance on the question of Quality of Sex QOS.
