Mr. John William Hart, the pioneer who developed the site where The Oriental Hotel now resides was a modern day visionary. His innovation was the key that helped shape the area surrounding Oriental Hotel as we know it today. Mr. Hart's name now stands proudly on our doors in honor of his great accomplishments. RECOMMENDED WHISKY MANZANILLA WOOD FINISH Distilled in two distinct locations in Japan, Nikka Whiskey has made its name with its smooth and rich finish. With Nikka's first distillery built in 1934, founder Masataka Taketsuru chose Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he mastered his whisky making. Miyagikyo distillery was selected for whisky production because of its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat. While both single malts have made a name for themselves in the past, Nikka has decided to take it one step further with the addition of their Manzanilla Wood Finish variety. Taking their standing distilling process and adding a final finishing process using a sherry manzanilla cask, a beautiful discovery was made. With its pleasant peaty notes and smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation, this unique and graceful touch will surely delight every true fan of Nikka Whiskey.
