The Origins of the Theory of Civil Society in Marx s Early Works: A study on die wahre Demokratie FUJITA Satoru : Today, research on civil society studies is increasing in the social sciences. Much of this research attempts to re-evaluate Marx in the light of the theory of civil society. The purpose of this paper is to locate the origins of the theory of civil society in Marx s early works, namely in his concept of die wahre Demokratie (true democracy). Die wahre Demokratie refers to a society based on Soziett. This is a kind of union that is a new form of human relationship, different from community. Marx theorizes that die wahre Demokratie would sublate ( aufheben ) the modern-era gap between civil society and political state. From this, he later develops his vision of a society composed of associations. Therefore, the concept of die wahre Demokratie in his early works can be seen as the origin of Marx s theory of civil society.
