PCI Express Graphics Products This graphics card uses the PCI Express hardware interconnect standard. It is designed to work using your PCI Express x16 I/O slot. PCI Express is the successor to the PCI, PCI-X, and AGP I/O standards. PCI Express delivers greater bandwidth and performance using a point-to-point high-speed serial link technology. PCI Express architecture is stable, scalable, and extensible. Installing your PCI Express Graphics Card NOTE: Refer to the Service and Technical Reference Guide for your HP Workstation for detailed information on removing and replacing components. You can find the guide at http://www.hp.com/support/workstation_manuals. To install your PCI Express graphics card: 1. Download the latest BIOS and driver updates from the support Web site at http://www.hp.com/go/workstationsupport. 2. After installing the updates, disconnect power from the system, remove the access panel, and lay the workstation on its side with the system board facing up. 3. If necessary, remove any card support brackets. 4. If a card guide was included with your kit, lower it into the chassis and snap it into place. Two types of card guide installations are shown in the following illustrations. NOTE: Your system, such as the HP xw8200 Workstation, might have a card guide integrated into the chassis, so this step is not necessary. 1
5. Release the PCI levers by first pressing down on them and then out 1, and remove the applicable PCI slot covers 2, if necessary. 6. Install the PCI Express card 3 and close the PCI levers 4. If required, connect the power supply cable 5. Verify that the keyed components of the card align with the socket. 1 2 4 3 5 If your card is long enough to fit in a card guide, lower the PCI Express card into the chassis and align the card in a groove of the card guide. Verify that the keyed components of the card align with the socket. 2
7. If your card has a card support bracket, install it to limit the movement of the card. The following illustrations show the installation of some typical card support brackets. 3
