The Way of Display in Exposition Internationale du Surréalism (Paris, ) and The State of Art Movement ASAKAWA Tomomi : At the present time, the Exposition Internationale du Surréalism (Paris, ) is mainly estimated as an installation, because it raised the exhibition space itself to a work of art. However, such an artistic effect was the result of the artists' aim to make a genuine surrealist exhibition. This paper analyzes how the exhibition was constructed and how it functioned in order to find out their character of movement in the way of display. In this exhibition, surrealists removed the boundary between inner reality and external reality by making a place where people experienced the surrealistic world as the real, and by manipulating their visual perception. German military music was also heard there. It shows clearly that surrealism was concerned with actual society. Such display was based on the concept of surrealism connecting one s internal release with the external revolution. It was a demonstration of surrealism maintaining its own way both in the field of art and in the movement to change actual society. : surrealism, exhibition, art movement, installation, dépaysement, sight Graduate Student, Graduate School of Sociology, Ritsumeikan University
