Japanese soap opera(a.k.a. Drama) as a learning tool YANG Jeongsun Abstract Utilizing Japanese soap opera (a.k.a. Drama) as a learning tool for people who are trying to learn Japanese language has a great advantage. Many expressions and dialogs that are used in conversations in a show address different meanings and contexts (Specific situations, Character s personality, Relationship between people, subjects of their conversation, etc) that are common to Japanese people but are not common to foreigners. By watching and hearing conversations that are spoken between the characters could increase learner s vocabularies, understating of Japanese cultures, and different expressions that are common to Japanese people.
