Changes of Feelings Expression in Pre-war and Middle-war time Japanese Animation Characters : Through Quantitative Analyses of Movement Symbol, Composition and Sound Effects from Production Methods Point of View Akihiko Kimura In pre-war era, there was no complicated psychological description of Japanese animation characters. This is contrary to Japanese contemporary TV animation ( anime ). Prior researches said that American animation movie characters had strong reflection on pre-war time Japanese idea of animation and comic character. And, it has also understood that Japanese characters had steadily been presented with their diversified feelings by creators. In addition, also mechanic description had been more realistic. The object of this study is Japanese animation pieces produced from 1924 to 1944 including the end of Taisho era and the beginning of Showa era when priorresearches hadn t yet been done. The writer makes clear how animation characters change ways of expressing their feelings throughout observation on creators and critics reference to animation production methods and quantitative researches on symbol mainly composed of character motion which wasn t the objective of prior researches.
