Formation of Systems of Communication Access Services for Students with Hearing Disabilities at Momoyama Gakuin University II : Results of Surveys about Note-taking Services Keiko SHIMIZU This paper is the second report on the activities of the collaborative research project 04-kyou- 169 at the Research Institute of Momoyama Gakuin University. It was presented for the purpose of notifying the results of surveys about note-taking services for two students with hearing disabilities at this university. Several surveys on three kinds of reports were conducted in academic years 2004 to 2006 : 1 brief utilization reports submitted by two student users of note-taking service K, M who were supported by two note-takers in each class ; 2 brief reports on each note-taking activity submitted by 14 student volunteers who supported K and / or M, and relatively long reports presented by them as a general overview of note-taking activity for one year in the year-end evaluation meeting; and 3 relatively long reports of note-taking services to K and / or M submitted by adult volunteers who were members of the note-takers circle Sakai Himawari. These surveys demonstrate that 14 student note-takers were able to gradually improve their own skills of note-taking: at the beginning, all the student volunteers were untrained note-takers, yet they were able to become more skillful innote-taking in a practical manner, acknowledging the presence of great differences in degree of proficiency between individuals. On the other hand, it seems that adult volunteers already had plenty of experience in note-taking and thus could provide necessary advice or aid to both student users and note-takers. The author suggests that these findings could be an informative guide for improving notetaking services at this university in the future.
