The Influence of Existential Anxiety on Youth Crime in a Risk Society: Based on the Evidence of a Bus Hijacking in Saga Prefecture KONDO Rie : This manuscript aims to examine the idea that crimes against society committed by young people in recent years are characterized by their existential anxiety related to the risk society. The author refers to the theory of existentialism developed by A. Giddens and uses the example of a youth who hijacked a bus in Saga prefecture in 2000. In addition, I examine factors contributing to existential anxiety such as risk of social exclusion as proposed by P. Bourdieu, the pure relationship in the context of the parent-child relationship, and the sequestration of experience by expanding systems of specialists as proposed by A. Giddens. Recently, existential anxiety, which is an illness of people in modern society, has been receiving attention and has become an issue again in this risk society. This is a new aspect of an old issue. The risk society developed in the 1990s, following the consumer society. In addition, not only selected groups and classes, but also ordinary children and families are at risk, with risk affecting people individually, and moreover, by convergence. : risk society, existential anxiety, risk of social exclusion, risk of pure relationship, risk of the sequestration of experience Assitant Professor, Okayama Prefectural University
