Practical Activities in International Cooperation based on the Collaboration with University and Student Voluntary Groups Analysis of the growing process of student voluntary groups using A Ladder of Participation model FUJIYAMA Ichiro Lecturer, Ritsumeikan Global Strategy Board Abstract This paper is intended as an analysis of effects for learning in practice focusing on international cooperation based on the collaborative activities with university and student voluntary groups. The paper takes particular note of the degree of student participation to international cooperation projects that university has been implementing. The paper examines transition of the participatory degree of the student group engaging in the Ritsumeikan Trust Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster Relief School Reconstruction Project beginning from, using A Ladder of Participation model. On the basis of our observation and investigation of this case study, the results clearly show that it has positive educational significance for university to make opportunities for students engaging in international cooperation activities in collaboration with university. However, academic and administrative staffs have needed flexible attitude and detailed instruction to students, according to stage of their participation, as long as their activities and projects give strong impacts to local community and people.
