A general framework of interventional study in cognitive rehabilitation for the elderly. YOSHIDA Hajime, OOKAWA Ichiro and TUCHIDA Noriaki The present article describes the general framework of our interventional studies in cognitive rehabilitation. In the first section very recent studies on brain imaging during reading and computing were introduced. Based on results of these studies, our basic stance for intervention were that reading aloud and simple computation highly activated frontal lobe more than other cognitive tasks. Then, it was assumed that giving tasks of both reading aloud and simple computation to the aged with dementia would activate their frontal lobe, and so lead to prevention of their intellectual decline. The present paper then introduced methodology of our project which was now on going. Key words frontal lobe, brain imaging, cognitive rehabilitation, reading aloud, computation PET fmri
