160 160 Sequels to Folk Tales Written by 160 College Students ONIZUKA Masako I have been lecturing on folk tales of the world at Saitama Women s Junior College for the past six years. In my class, I have students write down in Japanese their own original stories which are sequels to their favorite folk tales. Some stories are creative and interesting, while some are childish and difficult to understand. In this paper, I have analyzed the views on folklore found in 160 students stories. I also explore the students opinions on such things as happiness, love, death, independence, marriage and child care. 2004 2005 1 13
