The oral findings included reddening and tongue coating on the dorsum of the tongue. The patient complained of a strong tingling sensation that made it difficult to ingest meals. The patient had a history of disorders including hypertension and diabetes, and he was also taking hypotensors. The gum test result was 5 ml /1 min. The Wong-Baker Face Rating Scale FSwas 5 points. The patient was diagnosed to have glossitis caused by xerostomia. For the treatment, 9. g a day divided into three doses of Byakkokaninjinto was administered for two months. After two months of administering Chinese herbal medication, the gum test result was 5 ml /1 min and the FS score was 1 points. The findings of glossitis had largely disappeared and the subjective symptoms were found to have decreased. There was no significant change in the amount of saliva, but the clinical findings had improved for the tongue, while the subjective symptoms also showed improvement. Case was a 66-year-old female who visited our hospital complaining of oral dryness. The patient complained that she could not stop coughing when the sensation of oral dryness became strong at night. The oral findings revealed no particular organic changes. There were no specific findings in the patient s medical history. The gum test result was 6 ml /1 min. The FS score was 5 points.
