No.50 2015 pp.137 147 Education Note: Stratigraphic Survey Practice in and around Genji-yama Park in the City of Kamakura, in the Northern Part of Miura Peninsula, Central Japan: A guide for Observing the Miocene Pleistocene Miura and Kazusa Groups Hirokazu OZAWA and Yuriko NAKAO Received November 17, 2014 Representative strata with sedimentary structures and geological structures of the Miocene Pleistocene (ca. 6.0 2.4 Ma) Zushi and Ikego formations of the Miura Group and the Uragou Formation of the Kazusa Group are observable well in the northern part of the Miura Peninsula in and around Genji-yama Park of Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, central Japan. This area is suitable for a stratigraphic survey practice in the field excursion intended for college students, who are learners of geological surveying, because it provides easy access to outcrops of the strata. As a guide for observing strata with sedimentary structures and geological structures, this article presents a basic explanation of them of the Miura and Kazusa groups in this area, for college students who plan to obtain surveying practice with the aim of becoming science teachers at the junior or senior high-school level in the near future.
