1 No.110, * A study on the connection between family relationship and children's depression and fear Toshihiro UCHIDA, Takashi FUJIMORI* Accepted November 29, 2006 抄録 : 索引語 : Abstract : In this study, we examined the connection between family relationship assessed by children and the cognition of their families. As a result, we found 1) the number of children whose depression scores exceeded the standard ones was 14.6%, 2 girls had higher scores both in depression and fear, 3) fifth grade children had higher fear scores than sixth grade ones. As for the connection between family relationships and mental health, families were categorized into five patterns. And it was suggested that the balance between family members led to a decrease in a child's depression and fear compared to the distance between family members. The degree of satisfaction among family members has great influence on children's depression and fear. Especially, the satisfaction between father and mother has greater influence on children's mental health than that of fatherchild or mother-child relationships. Also, it was shown that children did not necessarily want fathers to approach them, and that children's depression worsen when fathers had a closer relationship if they kept an ideal distance.
