Global Education and Sustainable Development Program An inter-disciplinary program for adult learners interested in learning about current global issues and civil society and/or preparing for graduate school and careers in international organizations, sustainable development or work overseas while also advancing their professional English communication abilities. This course is for anyone with limited or no experience in non-governmental organizations but would like to increase their knowledge on NGO-related issues while learning and practicing key English vocabulary and concepts regarding NGOs. Class participants should expect to gain an increased English vocabulary related to current issues concerning non-governmental organizations and global society, as well as gain a further understanding of those issues. The course will be conducted in a workshop format; the instructor will introduce new materials every week and focus on group and whole class discussions, pair work exercises and simulation activities. This course is for anyone wanting to gain a deeper understanding of sustainable development and the connection between current issues. In this workshop we investigate core issues facing global society and how these are connected. This course uses interactive methods to help participants learn more about problems, peoples needs and possible solutions. This course is for anyone wanting to work in INGOs, preparing to study overseas or wanting to learn more about what is going on in the world. This course also serves as a bridge for those who have completed the introductory courses. This is an advanced writing skills course focusing on report writing skills. In this ten-week specialized course, we will practice skills connected to writing well-organized and effective reports, including focusing on gathering and synthesizing various sources of information, writing about specifc types of data, critiquing and analyzing source material, as well as logical writing structure. Beyond some assigned readings, for this term students will be given an opportunity to choose the topics they wish to write about as part of a course-iong writing project. Participants include those working in non-governmental organizations, international or multinational organizations, and those wishing to attend graduate school. Other persons intersted in improving their writing skills are more than weicome to attend.
Global Education and Ststainable Development Program Global Education and Sustainable Development Program English for Business This course covers both written and spoken communication for business purposes in English at the intermediate level. Participants will learn to speak with greater clarity and confidence in a range of business situations, such as meetings and discussions, and organize and write email messages with appropriate structure and formality. This course introduces learners to fundamental aspects of both written and spoken communication for business purposes in English. The writing component focuses on developing skills for writing and formatting email messages appropriate for business. The speaking component targets the strengthening of communication skills in situations relevant to business, such as conducting and participating in meetings and discussions, using the telephone and reporting on business activities. All classes are conducted entirely in English.
