Human Welfare 7 1 2015 A Study of the Influence of Attachment to a Sports Team on Attachment to Local Community and Motivation to Participate in Local Community Activities Naoya Hayashi* ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to use the community sport of volleyball as a survey topic to clarify the relationships between three factors : attachment to a volleyball team, attachment to one s local community, and motivation to participate in local community activities. As a result of this analysis, the following findings were obtained : Attachment to one s local volleyball team can influence attachment to the local activity base. I. e., if someone likes his or her local team, this can lead to liking the local community. Attachment to one s local activity base can influence motivation to participate in community activities to be held in one s area. I.e., liking one s local community can lead to active participation in local activities. Volleyball can be a tool to raise the degree of attachment to the local community as well as promote active participation in local community activities. Key words : attachment to a sports team, attachment to local community, motivation to participate in local community activities Associate Professor, School of Human Welfare Studies, Kwansei Gakuin University
