Health Sci., 2003 vol.2 79 84 79 Miyako Oike The purpose of this study was to examine case studies of 3 cancer patients from a viewpoint of narrative and emplotment, and to get suggestions for narrative analysis. The results were as follows: 1 Emplotment in narrative worked for constructing self-story of eacb cancer patient and identifying his/her value and faith. 2 In Emplotment process in narrative, patients selected and decided important events in their past to sketch out possible endings of their stovies. A sequence of these patients' activities was considered as their positive choices. 3 Nurse can perceive what a patient means in clinical encounter and play the important role not only as a listener but as a reader.
