Lesson 7 Grammar notes 1 Verb conjugation Verbs in Japanese change their forms, i.e., they conjugate, and they are divided into three groups according to the type of conjugation. Depending on the following phrases, you can make sentences with various meanings. 2 Verb groups 1 Group I verbs consonant verbs This group is called consonant verbs because the stem ends with a consonant. kak-u kak-i-masu write yom-u yom-i-masu read 2 Group II verbs vowel verbs This group is called vowel verbs because the stem ends in a vowel. In most of the verbs of this group, the last sound of the masu-form is that of the e -line, but in some verbs the last sound of the masu-form is that of the i -line. tabe-ru tabe-masu eat mi-ru mi-masu see 3 Group III verbs irregular verbs This group is that of irregular inflection.
