GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Wrong Coordinating Conjunctions (5-6 minutes) ( 誤った等位接続詞 ) A coordinating conjunction indicates a logical relationship between two or more words, phrases or clauses of equal importance. However, using the wrong conjunction can change the meaning of your sentence or make it inaccurate. ( 等位接続詞は 同様に重要な 2 つ以上の単語や句 節の論理的関係性を表します し かし 誤って接続詞を用いると文の意味を変えてしまったり 正確さを欠く文にしてし まう可能性があります ) Conjunction ( 接続詞 ) and but or so Logical Relationship ( 論理的関係性 ) shows similarity between items ( 項目間の類似性を示します ) shows a contrast between items ( 項目間の対照性を示します ) shows that items are optional ( 項目の任意性を示します ) shows that the second statement is the result of the first one (2 番目の記述が最初の記述の結果であることを示します ) Examples ( 例 ) The CEO set the meeting and everyone agreed to attend it. ( その CEO が会議を設定し 皆参加することに同意しました ) The manager is always busy, but he finds time to help everyone in the team. Remember: You must also avoid starting sentences with coordinating conjunctions. Put them in the middle because they function as connectors. ( 等位接続詞から文を始めることはできません 等位接続詞は文をつなぐ役割をするので 文の途中に挿入しましょう ) Examples: Incorrect Example: ( 誤った例 ) I finished typing the documents yesterday. But I forgot to save the changes on my computer. Correct Example: ( 正しい例 ) I finished typing the documents yesterday, but I forgot to save the changes on my computer. ( 私は昨日書類を入力し終えましたが コンピューターに変更箇所を保存するのを忘れ てしまいました ) Comprehension Check: Pretend that you are explaining to your boss why you were absent yesterday. Use a coordinating conjunction in your sentence.
