3 1. フィールドワークの感想 私は 二年次の春休みの 23 日間 MI コースのフィールドワークとして タイ ラオス カンボジアに行きました 現地の友人との出会いを大切に 生活に入り込んだ結果 国々の雰囲気を感覚的に掴めた事が大きな成果でした 例えば どの国でもジェンダー間の格差を強く感じました ラオスでは 行商や物乞いがほぼ女性 友人のラオス国立大の女子学生達は就職がなく 個人で店を開く相談をしている ヒアリング調査をした元パテトラオ ( ラオスの独立解放戦線 ) の老婦人はラオス社会での女性の忙しさを嘆いている そんな様子を現地のリアルな問題として肌で実感しました フィールドワークの経験を生かし より深く 現実的な視座を持つ研究を行っていきたいです 2. フィールドワークの概要 A. フィールドワーク前の準備 文献を読み込む ラオス タイについて 調査方法 フィールドワークについて 学問分野の基礎資料 ( 私の場合社会学的アプローチにしたので 社会学に関する本や社会学の研究方法 ) 卒論の書き方 etc テーマの選定がうまくいかなかったため 興味のある調査方法 学問分野 対象を見つけた 現地の人との連絡 現地でどんなリサーチができそうか 関係者にお話を伺う NGO スタッフ 友人の大学院生 ( ラオスで 1 年半フィールドワーク ) に 現地滞在の諸注意を聞く 卒論書いた先輩に卒論の勧め方 B. フィールドワーク日程 & 行き先 2 月 23 日から 3 月 17 日の日程で タイ ( バンコク ペッチャブリー ) ラオス ( ビエンチャン バンビエン ルアンパバーン ) カンボジア ( シェムリアップ ) を訪れた
4 C. フィールドワークの成果 具体的な収穫は 主に下記の 5 つ 1フィールドワークノート (2 冊分 ) その日にあった出来事や聞いた話 見た事などを なるべく詳しくノートに書いた ちょうどマーカブーチャ ( タイやラオの万仏節 ) などの行事や タイ農村の小学校を訪れ寄付をするチャリティーイベント 知人の出家式 葬式などに参加したので そのときの様子などを詳述 また 現地の人々と常に行動を共にしていたので 彼らに質問したことなども書いた 2 英文資料 (25 冊分くらい ) 現地で疑問をもったこと 興味をもったことを中心に 書物やデータをあつめた 博物館 国立図書館 ラオス国立大学の図書館 ラオス政府機関 (union of women) の図書館 書店 チュラロンコーン大学 タマサート大学 JICA office などに行き 本を購入またはコピーして 紙の情報を集めた 主に タイ ラオスの GENDER タイ ラオスの国際関係と両国間の国民感情 タイ ラオス カンボジアの仏教 歴史 エメラルドブッタ 開発について 3 資料写真デジカメで現地の様子を 枚分くらい取った そのうち 700 枚ほど現像済み 4 元パテトラオ ( ラオスの独立開放戦線 ) 人にお話しをうかがった時の録音テープ知人の紹介 通訳で パテトラオの女性戦士だった年配の方に 2 時間ほど 彼女の一生や戦時の生活 アメリカや日本へのイメージなどをヒアリング調査 ライフヒストリー調査をしてみた 5コネクション作り興味の対象をみなに知らせて 何かいい情報があったら知らせてくれるよう頼んだ
5 3. 今後の研究方針 興味のある問題 論文テーマ候補 2 つ A. タイ ラオスの歴史関係と国民感情 ~エメラルド仏陀に焦点をあてて~ 関心一番知りたいことは タイ ラオス両国がお互いをどのように認識しているか そのために タイとラオスの国際関係を歴史的に概観し エメラルド仏陀が現在両国の人々にどのようにとらえられているかを調べる そして 彼らのエメラルド仏への思いが お互いの国民への国民感情につながっているかどうかを知りたい 動機? エメラルド仏陀とは何か? エメラルド仏陀とはタイ バンコクのワットプラケオという寺院に安置されているエメラルドでできた仏像である 仏教国であるタイ ラオスにとって 国の宝である重要な仏像であり 現在両国が領有を主張している ラオスは もともとラオスにあったものでタイが現在不当に所持しているとするのに対し タイは それはもともとタイにあったもので 奪い返しただけだとしている? フィールドワークでは? タイ ラオス両方の友人各十人前後に エメラルド仏陀 について伺ったところ ほぼ タイ人は それはもともとタイから来たものだと答え ラオ人は それはもともとラオスから来たものだと答えた この違いは教育から来ているのだろうか 両国の主張が 国民にそのまま受け入れられている ラオ人 A さん (23 歳 男 Buddhist) の話 Emerald Buddha is important for Lao, because it is the first Buddha to come to Lao. エメラルド仏陀がくる前は ラオスに仏教はなかった! ラオ人 B さん (21 歳 女 Buddhist) の話 People believe that the Emerald Buddha will bring the prospect to Laos. ランサーン王朝はエメラルド仏陀がいるとき 発展したが 失ってから 東北タイをタイに取られるなどして衰退した バンコクが今発展を遂げているのは バンコクにエメラルド仏陀がいるから タイ人 C さん (23 歳 男 Buddhist) の話仏陀は ラオスの川から見つかった と聞いたことがある でも諸説あって 本当のこと
6 は分からない 誰も真実はわからない Create history だ タイ人 D さん (25 歳 女 Muslim) の話仏陀はもともと タイにあった それをラオがもっていった エメラルド仏陀には pray もしない 拝みもしない しかし respect する ムスリムにとっても大事な存在 Symbol of country であり unite the nation の手段である? なぜエメラルド仏陀か? まず エメラルド仏陀が両国に大きな影響を与えていることが挙げられる 現在両国間には 表立った政治的対立は起きていない 1 が 人々にとって大変重要な仏像であるために 将来の対立の火種になるとも限らない 例えば ラオスの人々にとって最も高貴で重要な二大仏像は パバーン と エメラルド仏陀 である タイでも 旧王宮となりのワットプラケオに安置され 現在でも王自ら エメラルド仏陀を三回の季節ごとに衣替えする儀式を行う また 私のタイのホストファミリーの女の子 (10 歳 ) も 毎夜 就寝前にエメラルド仏陀に向かい お祈りの言葉 2を唱えていた このように 人々の生活に浸透した仏像を知ることで その人々の思いを汲み取れるのではないかと思った? なぜタイ ラオスか? タイ ラオス両国は 国民性 宗教 言語 様々な面で共通性があり 歴史的に深いつながりがある 例えば 現在イサーンと呼ばれる東北タイの地域は フランス進駐前までは ラオスに属しており その地域の人々は ラオス語とタイ語両方の言語を使って暮らしている このように陸続きで深い交流のある二国を同時に扱ってみたいと思った また 個人的にラオス タイの友人が多く どこか日本人の感覚と似ている彼らのことを知りたいと思った 研究方法文献調査 資料とネット フィールドワークで得た情報を元に以下の項目を把握していく 現在収集済み資料は の通り タイ ラオスの歴史関係 国際関係 Short History of Laos, Thailand and her neighbors;laos, Isan ; Regionalism in Thai, Kith and Kin Politics, Evolution of 1 1 両国がこの件に関する議論を休戦する協定を結んでいる 2 エメラルド仏の方角に向かい ワーラルカンサンワータンワーといい 瞑想し 三回おじき これは エメラルド仏陀特有の祈り方 彼女は 心を静めるため毎夜行っているといっていた
7 Thai-Lao Relations エメラルド仏陀 History of the Emerald Buddha The temple of the Emerald Buddha, Buddha Apidhamaa, History of the temple of the Emerald Buddha タイ ラオスの国民感情 Thai-Lao Relations in Laotian Perspective タイ ラオスの仏教 または仏教の社会的影響 Religious Affairs in Lao P.D.R, Thai and Laos Society, Foundations of Buddhist Social Ethics in Contemporary Thailand, Women and Buddhism in Thailand 先行研究現在でも決着がついていない大変デリケートな問題なので 先行研究は少ない 3 上記の項目に関して 日本語で書かれたものは少なく タイ語 英語がほとんどである また エメラルド仏陀への思いから両国の国民感情を探るという手段は 英語文献では見られなかった エメラルド仏陀 : タイ ワットプラケオの解釈 History of the temple of the Emerald Buddha [According to a reliable chronicle, in 1434 A.D. lightning struck a chedi in Chiengrai in northern Thailand and a Buddha statue covered with stucco was found inside. The image was brought into the abbot s residence and one day he noticed that the stucco on the nose had flaked off and image inside was green in color.] pp18 [In 1552 he 4 returned to LuangPrabang, the then capital of Laos, taking the Emerald Buddha with him, and promised the ministers of Chiengmai to come back. He never returned nor did he sent back the Emerald Buddha, so the image remained at LuangPrabang for twelve years.] pp19 [In 1778, during the Thonburi period, when King Rama I of Bangkok was still a general, he captured Vientiane and brought the Emerald Buddha to Thailand.] pp19 3 タイの友人談 : もしエメラルド仏陀の真実が解明されれば タイ ラオスの国際関係に緊張が走り 戦争が起きる可能性もあるから 4 当時のチェンマイ王
8 ラオス ワットホーパケオの解釈 [Hophrakeo it was built in 1565 AD by the great king Xaisethatairath the Lao LaneXang Kingdom. The hopharakeo for the contain of the Emerald Buddha only. Now the emerald Buddha was in the foreign abroad since 1779 AD. ] ホーパケオの説明ボードより Bangkok magazine history of the Emerald Buddha [It is not know for sure when the Emerald Buddha was carved however judging from the appearance and style one could conclude it was carved in Northern Thailand not much earlier than the fifteenth century. On the other hand, the Emerald Buddha, which is in an attitude of meditation, looks much like some of the Buddha images of Southern India and Sri Lanka. This attitude of meditation has never been popular in other Thai carvings of Buddha images so one might assign the origin to one of the aforementioned countries.] B. タイ ラオスの女性の社会的地位と開発 ラオスでは パテトラオの方のお話しを含め gender の違いを強く感じた 行商や物売り 物乞いがほぼ女性で 友人のラオス大の女子学生たちも就職がないため 店を開く相談をしていた タイでも バンコクでは変化があるものの 農村ではその状況のようであった 日本で私が当たり前に享受してきた女子教育や機会平等が 通用しない社会をみて 女性が社会的にどのような役割や地位をもっているのか また 女性を利用した開発プログラムの効果は などについて調べたい
