4 What is TPQ? Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ) is an Istanbul-based journal aiming to foster original thinking and constructive policy debates on Turkey and its neighborhood. The journal has been published on a quarterly basis since TPQ is independent and non-profit, with a track record of including diverse and inter-disciplinary perspectives and encouraging critical opinions on every topic it covers. 7 Strong Outreach Besides the 3000 hardcopies distributed, TPQ utilizes certain instruments to increase its outreach even more. With newsletters, media coverage and social media combined, TPQ reaches approximately 25,000 people either directly or indirectly. e-newsletter To increase the outreach of the journal TPQ publishes an e-newsletter and share it with our database of 7000 people of relevant contacts that it has accumulated over the past 14 years including: decision makers, academics, civil society representatives, business people, and the media members. Media Coverage The TPQ team translates shortened versions of some of the articles and has them published in Turkish newspapers and online news portals, including Milliyet. In addition, as a result of TPQ s agreement with Hürriyet Daily News (HDN), abbreviated versions of several articles per issue are also published in HDN. Journalists who receive the hardcopy TPQs are also expected to carry the issues taken up in the journal to their respective columns. Social Media TPQ has approximately 9000 followers on its social media accounts. Upon the release of each issue TPQ uses social media extensively to draw visitors to its website. Combined with TPQ s content being accessible free online, these visitors continue to share the journal s content which further strengthens our outreach. 7

The Blog section consists of reviews, short essays, general commentaries, and topical analyses of current developments on areas/topics that may include, but are not limited to: Turkish foreign policy, domestic political trends, regional security trends, developments in Turkey s neighborhood, Euro-Atlantic policies and relations with Turkey and the region, governance and democratization issues in the region, etc. 8

9 The Debates section is a platform for dialogue, in which potential authors are encouraged to respond or critically analyze a TPQ print article. Debates are ongoing for the duration of the issue they pertain to, expiring when a new issue is released. Debate pieces should follow a specific structure: The author should briefly state the reason this particular article was chosen for review/analysis and briefly summarize the thesis of the article in question. The main body of the piece should be opinion-driven, focusing on counter-arguments to the author and offering a new angle to ongoing debates. 9
