3 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Adverbs of Degree (5-6 minutes) ( 程度の副詞 ) Adverbs are words that modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Adverbs of Degree, on the other hand, tell how much or to what extent the verb, adjective, or another adverb is. Some examples are absolutely, totally, highly,, nearly, somewhat, entirely, so, quite, very, pretty, rather, enough, etc. ( 副詞は動詞形容師他の副詞を修飾する語です程度の副詞はその動詞形容師他の副詞の程度がどのくらいかを示します程度の副詞の例は absolutely, totally( 完全に ), highly ( 非常に大いに ), nearly ( ほとんど ), somewhat ( 少し多少 ), entirely ( 全く完全に ), so, quite, very, pretty ( とても非常に ), rather ( かなり少々 ), enough ( 十分に全くまあまあ ) 等です ) The opportunities in this career are absolutely amazing ( この職業での機会はまったく驚くべきだ ) (In this sentence, absolutely shows how amazing the opportunities are.) この文では absolutely は機会の驚くべき度合いがどれくらいかを示しています The manager speaks quite persuasively. 4 Examples ( 例 ): 1. Adverbs modifyng a verb usually comes before the verb. If there are two verbs in the sentence, the adverb should be positioned in the middle. ( 動詞を修飾する副詞は通常動詞の前に置かれます文中に 2 つの動詞がある場合は副詞はその間に置かれます ) She totally decides everything by herself. ( 彼女は彼女自身で何から何まで全てのことを決める ) She is totally decided in her career path. ( 彼女は彼女のキャリアの道を全て決めた ) 2. Adverbs modifying an adjective or adverb usually come before the word it modifies. ( 形容詞副詞を修飾する副詞は通常修飾する語の前に置かれます ) The salary was somewhat competitive. ( 給料はいくらか ( 他会社に ) 引けをとらなかった ) Her replacement doesn t work very well. ( 彼女の交代はあまりうまくはいかなかった ) 3. Enough is an exception to the second rule.
