At first, row-boxel data in the shape of the arrangement of the teeth were Obtained by the use of a piped phantom made of aluminum and having a diameter of 10 mm. Then the phantom was divided into 27 slices, each of 1.0-mm thickness. The conspicuous edge of the phantom was detected, and its grey level was measured.by deference to the grey level, the edge spread function ESF was calculated. Then the ESF was transformed into a line spread function LSF, which was then transformed into a modulation transfer function MTF by use of the Fourier transform. Data were obtained for each part of the incisor, premolar, and molar positions, after which the spatial resolution was analyzed. The results were as follows : 1. The spatial resolution in the incisor region was obtained from 3.5 cycles/mm to 5.0 cycles/mm and tended to increase

2 from the lingual to labial side. 2. The spatial resolution in the premolar region was obtained from 2.5 cycles/mm to 4.5 cycles/mm and tended to increase from lingual to labial side, as in the case of the incisor region. 3. The spatial resolution in the molar region was obtained from 2.5 cycles/mm to 4.5 cycles/mm and tended to increase from the lingual to labial side, as tn the case of the incisor region and premolar regions.
