A Study on the Relationship Between Team Identity and Place Attachment to the Local Community with a Focus on Game Spectators in Amateur Sports ABSTRACT Naoya Hayashi* The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between team identity and a team s attachment to its local community, targeting game spectators in amateur sports, and in so doing, to examine the raison d être of a community-supported nonprofessional team in terms of building a fan base and community planning. The number of analysis subjects was 97 (male : 55.7% ; female : 44.3%). As a result of the analysis, the following findings were obtained : - There is a correlation between team identity and place attachment to the local community among game spectators in amateur sports. - A nonprofessional team that is closely attached to and supported by its community plays an effective role in building a fan base as well as in community planning. Our challenge for the future is to improve the reproducibility of study results by conducting similar surveys and analyses targeting different amateur sports and independent leagues.
