No.7,321-332 (2006) 2 Electronic Funds Transfer as the Foundation of the Monetary Value of Electronic Money - A Study on the JBA 1 Integrated Circuit Cash Card Standard Specifications (Second Edition) and the Classification of Electronic Money - OSHIMA Kazuchika Nihon University, Graduate School of Social and Cultural Studies Electronic money has been used around the world in demonstration experiments of various forms and systems since the late 20 th century. Currently, many types of electronic money are used in commerce. The Edy and Suica systems in Japan have evolved into remarkable electronic money systems in recent years. Electronic money consists of a monetary value stored in an electromagnetic record. Transactions are completed upon the transfer of this value. Electronic values ultimately establish a monetary flow based on repetitive circulation. Among electronic money systems with repetitive circulation, Mondex is the only system with open-loop circulation. Edy realizes restrictive open-loop circulation, but the system uses pseudo-open-loop circulation with a range that does not exceed basic closed-loop circulation. Now that closed-loop circulation is close to becoming the standard, it is crucial to accept the ideals and reality of this trend, and to adequately understand electronic funds transfer as the foundation of the monetary value of electronic money. Regarding the JBA Integrated Circuit Cash Card Standard Specifications (Second Edition), this paper summarizes the electronic funds transfer for each system of electronic money. In addition, future requirements for issuers and electronic funds are discussed. 1. 20 2005 4 1 IC 1,020 1 Japanese Bankers Association Edy 2 Suica 3 2 1999 7 2001 11 1 IC 2 930, Edy 20,000!!, (7 Apr. 2005), <http://www.edy.jp/press/html/050407.html>(8 Apr. 2005)
