72 A Report on the Taiwan Study Tour Kouko Yamada, Koyama Atsuyo, Keiko Yano, Toyoe Taguchi, Suemi Nagashima, Takae Kiyono, Masako Aota, Yasuko Matsukawa, Mayuko Nakamura Department of Nursing, School of Nursing Science, Meiji University of Integrative Medicine The Bulletin of Meiji University of Integrative Medicine ABSTRACT Nine faculty staff members from the School of Nursing Science at Meiji University of Integrative Medicine visited the School of Nursing at China Medical University from December 22 nd to 23 rd 2010 in Taichung, Taiwan. Information was exchanged on curriculums, especially Traditional Chinese Medical Nursing, and the possibility of a sharing of research between faculty members of the two universities was discussed. Besides the School of Nursing at China Medical University, we had a chance to visit Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine at China Medical University, China Medical University Hospital, Taoyuan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan County, and to hear about the nursing system from the head of the nursing units. On the 24 th, we visited National Yang-Ming University School of Nursing (NYMUSON) where we had a lecture outlining the main points of the curriculums which NYMUSON provides for its students. We also had a guided tour of the university campus by professor Fu-Jin Shih and exchanged views with her on the curriculums for their bachelor s course. The fruits of the study tour are: 1) exchanged scholastic information among above-mentioned faculty staff, especially information on the research and education system related to Oriental Medicine; 2) discussed a faculty exchange between the universities to share long-term research; 3) considered the dispatch of a guest lecturer to our affiliated International Academic Exchange Center enterprise; 4) received information about nurses who take part in providing acupuncture medical care for outpatients. (Nurses who have taken the required 9 credits in specialized acupuncture subjects in addition to regular nursing subjects can work in the Acupuncture Outpatient s Section). From this point on, we need a system which permits faculty staff to share their research and to visit universities of foreign countries for the purpose of deepening their nursing knowledge and experience. Especially for young staff members and students, we need to construct a concrete path which gives them a chance to study and experience Oriental Medicine and Complementary and Alternative Medicine in foreign countries.
