October The Attitudes of Parents Who Experienced Classroom Collapse Analysis of an attitude survey of parents on the relationship between home and school ABSTRACT Parents understanding of school education and their expectations of the mediator between home and school were analyzed. Questionnaires were administered to parents who had experienced classroom collapse and those who had not. The questionnaire consisted of 110 items on the relationship between home and school. One hundred and twenty parents, 31 who had experienced classroom collapse and 89 who had not, responded. As a result, three important points were clarified in the responses of parents who had experienced classroom collapse in comparison with those who had not. Firstly, they recognized a feeling of crisis regarding their school and its closed system. Secondly, they had a tendency to feel powerless and passive in their participation in school education. Thirdly, their expectation of the mediator was not advocation or negotiation but neutrality and connection with the intelligence network. A tentative conclusion is that radical change of the relationship between home and school is necessary for the resolution of the classroom collapse problem. Key Words: classroom collapse, the attitudes of parents, the mediator between home and school
