GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Stative Verbs in the Progressive Form (5-6 minutes) ( 状態動詞 ) Stative Verbs show states or conditions which are unchanging or do not indicate activity. They use non-progressive or non-continuous verb forms. ( 状態動詞とは 行動ではなく状態を示す動詞です 状態を表す際は 進行形 (ing 形 ) では使用されません ) Two Forms of Stative Verb: ( 状態動詞の 2 つの分類 ) 1. Verb of inert perception and cognition ( 感じ方や認識を示す状態動詞 ) (e.g. ( 例 ) think, believe, like, love, see, feel, forgive, hear, remember, smell, prefer and wish) Example ( 例 ): Incorrect: I am preferring this apartment than that one. Correct: I prefer this apartment to that one. ( 私はこの部屋のほうがあの部屋よりも好きだ ) Incorrect: Johnny is liking to rent a room near his office. Correct: Johnny likes to rent a room near his office. Relational verbs (e.g. ( 例 ) belong, cost, depend, need, owe, own, possess, resemble) ( 関係を示す状態動詞 ) Example ( 例 ): Incorrect: She is owning the condominium at Lexus Building. Remember: Some stative verbs like be, think, see, have, and taste when used in progressive form become dynamic verbs or verbs that show progressive action. ( ポイント : 状態動詞 (be, think, see, have, taste など ) が進行形で使用される場合は 状態ではなく動作を示す形となる ) E.g. I think this room is big enough for me.
