or 2) [one consonant/ consonant cluster] + [one voel] Hoever, some excetions might occur ith the consonants n and m Both n and m might aear at the end o a syllale, as in en and eam, ut they are not as strong as their English counterarts, hich sound en-uh and eam-uh There may also aear either an oen n [as in rock n roll ] or closed m humming, hich makes them seudo-indeendent syllales There may also e an excetion to the voiceless consonants ecoming seudo-indeendent syllales: hen they are olloed y a voel in arentheses or a small circle (eg, light / h(i)kari / hi kari [kai] ), this indicates that the voel may dro, therey ecoming non-itched, ecause it is too short The score ill indicate such excetions and ho to execute them vocally Caital letters indicate the irst letter o a ord A hyhen indicates that the connected syllales elong to a ord or a meaningul chunk o a sentence; thereore, it is est to avoid taking a noticeale reath at any hyhenated art Both a macron (a straight ar laced aove a letter) and consecutive same voels indicate that the voel is long (eg, ass / tru/tooru [tou] vs get / toru [tou] ) A macron is reerred In seech, aanese syllales maintain a steady and constant duration, although this rule might not e aarent in music; thereore, a macron or consecutive same voels may not aear in the score, since the duration o the voel is determined y the given note value In order to make the syllaic searation clearer, an aostrohe may aear: 1) to indicate a clear searation ith a ossile glottal attack eore a voel [eg, a ig man 'otoko = -'o-to-ko [ootoko],];
