Finally you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire survey about your experiences of Manga and Anime. 第 2 回 History of Manga (1) Here we cover traditional arts from Bishop Toba's "Birds and Beasts Caricature ( 鳥 獣 戯 画 )" to Suiho Tagawa's "Norakuro(のらくろ)" before the the end of the war(1945). 第 3 回 History of Manga (2) It was Osamu Tezuka that established the basics of prosperity of Japanese Manga and Anime. And we must not forget the appearance of "Gekiga( 劇 画 )" in 1960s for the development of the story Manga. 第 4 回 Mixed Media based Manga A variety of "Media-Mix" were formed and produced from Manga. For example, Comic Markets(Dojinshi 同 人 誌 ), Costume Plays, TV-Games and the construction of Manga Museums. Manga culture has become a big industry. 第 5 回 Globalization of Manga Manga came to be accepted as "Otaku Culture" by youths of the world. Why? In a word, because Manga and Anime were able to give the feeling of freedom, dreams for the future and bravery to the young people. 第 6 回 Characteristics of Expression Technique in Manga (1) The progress of expression techniques in Manga realized its high qualities as a literary art. The biggest feature in Manga's expression is "Exaggeration," by which Manga artists emphasize their messages clearly. 第 7 回 Characteristics of Expression Technique in Manga (2) Manga artists use phonetic and mimetic vocabulary called "Onomatopoeia" frequently. 21 Manga. 第 11 回 Transformation Anime from Manga (1)History and Classification of Animation The most primitive animation is "Flip-Animation(Line Drawing Animation)." There are several kinds of animation now, for example, "Silhouette Animation", "Puppet Animation", "Clay Animation", "Cell Animation" and "CG Animation". 第 12 回 Transformation Anime from Manga (2) It was Osamu Tezuka that produced the first TV Anime series, "Mighty Boy Atom( 鉄 腕 アトム)." Since then most of Anime have been making based on Manga. So we could say that Anime didn't exist without Manga. 第 13 回 How to create Manga How to create Manga is divided into three steps: First making a story, second composing frames on the paper and drawing rough sketches which is called Name, finally "Fair Drawing" to complete his work. We ll try to do these works experimentally. 第 14 回 How to create Anime(1) The process of producing animation can be divided into four:(1)storyboarding, (2)Drawing, (3)Photography, (4)Sound Editing. It takes so much time and so many stuffs to produce an animated film. So Anime is one of the synthetic, total arts. Here we ll try to create a simple animation. 第 15 回 How to create Anime (2) After completing our short animation, every group will give its presentation. Finally we review what we learned about Manga and Anime during this semester. Everyone who is interested in Manga & Anime as a Japanese popular culture can take this course. Good English skills unnecessary. 60% comes from final exam, 40% comes from the results of the experimental surveys carried out during the classes. You need to aquire the ability to think about the essence of the matter as you read Manga. ir-syllabus.yoshida-p.net/kokusai/index_tchr_k.html 2/2
