Abstract A research on virtual window connection method of remote spaces in IP communication environment Shingo NISHIZAKI The current video chat systems assume to support mainly 1 person to 1 person communication They do not aim of the plural spaces communication In this paper, the communication function which puts the communication from a space to another space is given to a user The communication between spaces should afford the users a smooth and natural connection An virtual feeling of contiguity should be also given to the system The proposed system takes a metaphor of the window in the real world This system has a virtual window which a similar view as an actual window is given for the user The other party space connected is projected onto a virtual window In order to control a display, a user s position information is required for the connection system Forthis perpose, user s specific position detection was studied A user s 3-dimensional coordinates (x, y, z axis) are required for this system A RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system is used for measurement of a user s 3-dimensional coordinates The observer possesses his own RFID tag And the RFID tag readers/writers are laid out at the crossing points of lattices horizontally arranged so that they covers the space ever when the observer moves A cell map is obtained from the RFID measurement It is processed using the gravity center calculation method As a result, user s position is identified in two dimension coordinates The, coordinates on z axis iii
are identified by measuring electromagnetic propagation strength from the RFID tags In this research, the positional identification method was verified by using active type RFID tag of maximum reading distance 35m Consequently, as for the position identification on 2-dimensional coordinates, in the case of 150cm arrangement interval of RFID tag readers/writers, the accuracy error was acquired from 0 to 1414cm The presumed accuracy on z axis coordinates is 0cm to 10cm key words VirtualWindow, RFID and Position detection iv
