561 117 The Doshisha University Economic Review Vol.58 No.4 Abstract Yoko UEDA, Japanese FDI and Auto Parts Industries in Thailand Thailand has been so successful in developing automobile industry that she became the 15th largest country in the number of automobile production in the world. The FDI by foreign auto makers, most of which are Japanese, as well as Thai government s policies, has greatly contributed to the expansion of automobile industry in Thailand. Many auto parts makers have been also set up. This paper intends to investigate the competitiveness of Thai local auto parts makers, which grew in response to the increase of Japanese FDI.
