No.7, 633-644 (2006) Regime of Information Control and Its Collapse in North Korea MIYATA Atsushi Nihon University, Graduate School of Social and Cultural Studies Recently, there are cracks being formed on each of these four areas of restriction. The crack that comes above the surface the most is the restriction of information. Such is revealed directly through the testimonies of North Korean defectors and internal classified data on North Korean ideology education that have been leaked outside of the country. Collapsing of information restriction, even if it s a momentary thing, greatly influences the restricting of other areas such as behavior, ideology and emotion and shakes up the basis of dictatorship regime in the long term. In reality, people in North Korea is starting to take action about anti-establishment movement and opposing the orders from the government. Few obstacles to overcome lie before advancing increasing of popular discontent into collapsing of establishment however, thus it won t be advanced at one sitting. On the whole, the reasons for collapsing of dictatorship establishment are divided broadly into oppression from outside (war with foreign power, economic blockade, supports for anti-establishment from foreign nation among others) and internal pressure (economic crisis, increase in popular discontent, etc.) The purpose of this article is to discuss the restriction of general population so there s no mention on oppression from outside.
