posterior compression of the arytenoid cartilages towards the petiole of the epiglottis. Voice therapy is thought to be effective, but to date it has been unclear whether voice therapy improves laryngeal findings. We developed gan MTD score hto rate compression of three sites in the larynx during phonation of sustained vowels under transnasal endoscopic examination, in order to estimate of laryngeal hyperfunction. To clarify curative effectiveness of voice therapy on muscle tension dysphonia, we evaluated scores in the course of voice therapy. The number of subjects was 31, consisting of 25 males and 6 females. The age distribution showed a peak in the second half of the sixth decade. Medical interviews revealed that episodes preceding onset varied. In 24 cases, timedependent reduction of the scores occurred in the course of therapy, in tandem with an increase in training sessions. In 21 of those cases, the scores decreased to 0 points accompanied by disappearance of hoarseness. Three cases showed complete improvement after several exacerbations. The remaining 4 cases showed no improvement. Together these data strongly suggest that voice therapy has a therapeutic effect on muscle tension dysphonia.
