Conditions for Industrialization of Developing Country Technology Transfer of Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation insasexample Sao-Yang Hong Abstract After the WWII, Taiwan break it s political and economic ties with Main land China in and became independent economic entity. Taiwan industrialization process with financial and technological aids from US, Japan, and United Nations. Especially, Japan started the construction of tangible and non-tangible infrastructures necessary for the initial stage of industrialization. Therefore, Taiwan are more familiar with Japanese standard of component parts and machine manipulations than with US standard. The paper study the case of government owned Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation. It was Taiwan Dockyard Company during Japanese colonization era, it s primary business was repair ships. After WWII, Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation was rented to US Ingalls Shipbuilding Co., and US system and technology was imported to buildton oil tanker. However due to the misuse of fund, loses were made by the corporation, and company was suspended and dissolved in Ministry of Economic Affairs was force to takeover the management of the corporation After that, Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation turn to Japan for technological support. By technology transfer between Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation and Ishikawajima- Harima Heavy Industries Co. IHI take place through Package Deal, Ishikawajima- Harima supplied raw material, instruction of consultant and training of personnel. Thus, Taiwan Shipbuilding Company successfully build ton of large oil tanker in the After receiving technological transfer from Ishikawajima-Harima, the Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation shows significant improvements on production, finance, and management side.
