19 Having passed down138 years of history and tradition of Doshisha The Imadegawa campus is located on the site where Doshisha was founded 138 years ago. The camupus building of the Meiji era, such as the Doshisha Chapel, Shoeikan, Yushukan, Harris Science Hall, and Clarke Memorial Hall are designated as cultural properties of national importance, keeping in harmony with the modern buildings on the campus constructed in the Taisho and early Showa era. These buildings stand as a living museum, a testament to the history and development of university education in Japan through the years from the Meiji era to the present day. About 20,000 students are now studying on this campus, which has a total area of 97,000m 2. C-4

21 Offering an ideal learning environment, which engenders the feeling of Doshisha s new beginning This campus was established in Kyotanabe (southern Kyoto Prefecture) in On the vast campus, whichi covers 790,000m 2, are modern school buildings equipped with advanced experimental and educational facilities. Their exterior walls are uniformly covered with brick tiles, which enable them to exist in harmony with the beautiful surrounding scenery. The campus houses the Learned Memorial Library incorporating a multi-media library, as well as a building for the Faculty of Science and Engineering equipped with experimental facilities which are still rare in Japan, such as an NMR room, a clearn room and an anechoic room. In addition, the Doshisha Rohm Plaza and the Information and Media Building were opend in October, 2003 on the same campus. About 9,000 students are now studying on this campus. In1922, when it finished its role as a library, the then chancellor, Danjo Ebina, named it Yushukan, meaning the building which has fulfilled its mission. 同志社女子大今出川駅 KEISHIKAN 近鉄木津川台駅から徒歩分 Yushukan Davis Memorial Auditorium 分ゆうしゅうかん有終館国の重要文化財 IMADEGAWA PREMISES OF A SCHOOL 至八幡京都 KYOTANABE CAMPUS PREMISES OF A SCHOOL 至四条京都駅ＪＲ大阪駅から徒歩 D.C.グリーンが設計し 1886 明治19 年に竣工したアメリカンゴシック調の鉄板葺き煉瓦造りアメリカンボードの寄付によって建築された日本におけるプロテスタント派の煉瓦造りの礼拝堂としては現存する最古のもの同志社の歴史とキリスト教精神を象徴する建物である (designated as a national important cultural property) This American-Gothic brick building, with its iron-sheet thatched roof, was constructed in 1886 following a donation from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. It was designed by D.C. Green and is the oldest brick Protestant chapel in existence, as well as being, a symbol of the history and the spirit of Doshisha s Christianity. Davis who greatly contributed to the estblishment of the Doshisha Eigakko (Academy) by supporting Neesima as a dedicated partner. KARASUMA CAMPUS 同志社大学 KARASUMA St. 理科教育をめざした新島襄の情熱に応えたJ.N.ハリスの厚意によりハリス理化学校工学部の前身の校舎として建築された 1890 明治23 年の竣工でイギリス積みの煉瓦建築 (designated as a national important cultural property) This British-style brick building was constructed in 1890 through the generous benefaction of an American businessman, J.N.,Harris, who had great empathy with Neesima s strong enthusiasm for science education. Learned. On the front of the building can be found the phrase he loved: Learn to LIve and Live to Learn Doshisha Chapel C-8 Learned Memorial Library B.W.クラーク夫妻からの寄付により建設されたものドイツのネオゴシックを基調とする重厚な建物で印象的な尖塔は同志社のシンボル的存在になっている 1894 明治27 年の開館当時はクラーク神学館と呼ばれ神学教育研究の中心となっていた 2008年2月 5年に渡る保存修理工事を経て竣工 (designated as a national important cultural property) The construction of the Clarke Memorial Hall was made possible by a coutribution from American missionaries, Mr. and Mrs. B.W.Clarke. It is a stately and magnificent building based on the German neo-gothic style, whose unique steeple has become asymbol of Doshisha. It was named the Clarke Seminary when first established in 1894, and was the center of theological education and research. Imadegawa campus is next to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and located in the central part of Kyoto city. Kyoto is the old capital and a cultural city with 1200 years of history and tradition. Kyoto is also a student city where a number of universities are gathered, and provides a comfortable atmosphere in which to live and study, enhanced by the city's seasonal and traditional delights. Imadegawa campus From JR Kyoto Station, take the Subway Karasuma Line bound for Kokusai Kaikan. Get off at Imadegawa. The campus is just outside the station. (travel time: 10minutes) 2 Kyotanabe campus From JR Kyoto Station, take the Kintetsu Kyoto Line to Shintanabe, and take a bus to Doshisha Seimon-mae. (travel time: 35 minutes) 3 Kansai Science City (Gakken Toshi) Campus From JR Kyoto Station, take the Kintetsu Kyoto Line to Kizugawadai and walk 13 minutes. It is a stately and magnificent building based on the German neo-gothic style, whose unique steeple has become asymbol of Doshisha. It was named the Clarke Seminary when first established in 1894, and was the center of theological education and research.
