1 On the STCW Convention and its English Requirement 1. What is the STCW Convention? [1] The key to maintaining a safe 1) shipping environment and keeping our oceans clean 2) lies_in all 3) seafarers across the world observing high standards of 4) competence and professionalism in the duties they perform 5) on board. 2 [2] The Convention was 1) adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1978 and 2) came_into_force in During the late 1980s, it was clear that STCW-78 was not 3) achieving its aim of raising professional standards world-wide, and so IMO members decided to 4) amend it.
