9 The SuMIRe project Subaru Measurement of Images and Redshi5s HSC + PFS ExploiHng the ~1.5 deg ﬁeld of view on the prime focus of the 8.2m Subaru Telescope. Wide-ﬁeld imager Hyper-Suprime Cam (HSC) HSC PFS CCD array Fiber array ü ~0.9 billion pixels ü 300 nights in ü 1400 sq. degrees, ~1B galaxies Wide-ﬁeld mulh-object spectrometer Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) ü 2400 ophcal ﬁbers ü 300? nights from 2019? ü ~4M galaxy redshi`s ü ~1M stars in MW, M31, dsphs. Mar 2014: Cable A & Spectrograph System (SpS) CDR Done! Mar 2015: PFI, fiber posihoner system (delta on Jun 22), Cable C CDR Done! Sep 2015: Metrology camera CDR (delta on Dec 3) Done! 22 A Calibration System for PFS HSC と同様のコンセプト The desired uniformity, ~10 percent, can only be achieved robustly with a single central source. Very difficult optically. The screen is only 3 meters from the top of the PFI, so the angle is large, 54 degrees. To illuminate a Lambertian screen with this geometry uniformly requires a source with an intensity distribution like sec 3 q, 5 times as intense at 54 degrees as on axis. The space and weight requirements are severe, but a lightweight system can be accommodated on top of PFI. Will describe the chosen system in a bit. 24 from a laser source A (red in the sketch) is launched into a selected fibre input at an angle θ with respect to the fibre optical axis. This produces an azimuthally scrambled output beam with a conical profile, having a full cone angle of 2θ. The conical output produces an annular pattern on a suitably positioned target screen. If the screen is printed with x, y axis scales and concentric reference circles the position of the ring can be measured and recorded. 25 ファイバーポジショナー Cobra 今年上旬に大量生産前の最終デザイン調整と試験で耐久性の問題が発覚 >100k cycles の耐久性が必要なところ <50k で止まってしまうという問題があった原因調査とデザイン改良を経て12 本の新たなプロトタイプの耐久試験を実施中経過順調 (~ k cycles) 500k までは継続今週中にレポートがある予定 ( 審査し大量生産開始予定 ) 25

26 SpS What s happening now JHU Winlight One channel Integra=on Mangin Collimator Cryostat assembly, pump-down and cool-down before shipping The team are working hard to get first lab spectra. Cryostat pumping and cooldown with op=cs & mechanics inside LAM LNA First fiber slit assembly arrival from LNA and installed on the op=cal bench with Hexapod.

27 SpS What s happening now First images with the engineering CCDs reported on Oct 31 (2 chips, 4 channels per each) The ﬁrst science-grade H4RG array will be delivered this month. (The other three will be coming next year) 27

28 Summary about PFS The project passed Conceptual Design Review in 2012 and Preliminary Design Review in The Spectrograph System (SpS) & the Prime Focus Instrument (PFI) also passed the subsystem CriHcal Design Review in 2014 & 2015, respechvely. Now ﬁnalizing the design studies and proceeding with produchon, integrahon & test.
