3 6. 研究実績概要 ( 全期間を通じた研究の目的研究計画の実施状況成果等の概要を簡潔に記載してください ) This project focuses on the design of tools and experimentation platforms to evaluate new network protocols and architectures. This project is built on state-of-the-art tools and platforms: the open source ns-3 network simulator and particularly, the Direct Code Execution (DCE) framework, the PlanetLab testbed and the Network Experiment Programming Interface (NEPI). DCE allows to execute directly within the ns-3 simulator unmodified network protocol implementations and applications. Our French partners added the support of recent Linux kernels, and different versions of Fedora and Ubuntu Linux distributions. Other works included the creation of a helper to automatically create the static routes for a static network like the helper existing in ns-3, and the support of Message Passing Interface (MPI) for two loaders of DCE (CoojaLoader and CopyLoader). NEPI is a Python-based library to model and run network experiments on a variety of network evaluation platforms (e.g. PlanetLab, OMF wireless testbeds, network simulators, etc). It allows to specify resources, to define an experiment workflow and to automate deployment, resource control and result collection. We have developed CUTEi, which employs the Linux container (LXC) lightweight virtualization mechanism for node design and enables testbed users to evaluate ICN (Information-Centric Network) / CCN (Content-Centric Network) applications and protocols. It enables testbed users to share the major or common ICN software and applications on top of CUTEi nodes. In addition to OS commands and libraries, CCNx, NDNx, and other software and libraries are currently pre-installed in a Logical Volume (LV) of each CUTEi node as basic ICN components. CUTEi adopts NEPI to automate experiment description, distributing codes, and executing network experiments on network evaluation platforms: The user first uses a Python-based language to describe the experiment as a graph of interconnected components, including CCN nodes, FIB configuration, and CCN applications. Then, s/he instructs NEPI how to deploy the experiment. In the CUTEi testbed, NEPI uses an SSH-based back-end to automate to run CCN applications (e.g., ccncat) on user containers. During and after execution of the experiment, the user can ask NEPI to download CCN logs and other collected results from his/her user containers. On the other hand, because requesting and transmitting named data is unique and can be independent of IP routing, common IP-based network tools such as ping and traceroute are unable to evaluate CCN protocols and architectures. Furthermore, these tools do not allow the state of the in-network cache to be discovered. Hence, we need a network tool that can assist troubleshooting activities in CCNs while helping the design of in-network caching and name-based routing mechanisms. We therefore proposed contrace, a network tool for CCNs (particularly, CCNx implementation running on top of IP) that can be used to investigate 1) the Round-Trip Time (RTT) between content forwarder and consumer, 2) the states of in-network cache per name prefix, and 3) the forwarding path information per name prefix. We report a series of experiments conducted using contrace on a CCN topology created on a local testbed and the GEANT network topology emulated by the Mini-CCNx emulator. The results confirm that contrace is not only a useful tool for monitoring and operating a network, but also a helpful analysis tool for enhancing the design of CCNs. Further, contrace can report the number of received interests per cache or per chunk on the forwarding routers. This enables us to estimate the content - 3 -

4 popularity and design more effective cache control mechanisms in experimental networks. Our work described for the contrace was published in the March issue of IEEE Communications Magazine. Our work in this associated team mainly consists in enhancing these tools and testbed, evaluating them in validating new network architectures, and promoting their usage to the network community through tutorials, demos, posters and presentations at conferences. We have also proposed the IGMP/MLD-based explicit membership tracking function for multicast routers and IGMP/MLD proxy devices supporting IGMPv3/MLDv2 to the IETF standards body. This idea was motivated by the effective CCN operation for receiving contents by multiple receivers as CCN does not have any leave operation and reduces the number of state machines. The explicit membership tracking function is applied for the traditional IP multicast routing procedures. It contributes to saving network resources and shortening leave latency. We think this idea will become one of the standard functions that should be supported by all IP multicast routers and give the great chance to deploy it in the Internet
