METHODS 50 Male SD rats were randomly divided into sham operated SO group sepsis SEP group galanthamine Gal group atropine Atr group galanthamine + atropine Gal + Atr group. Sepsis model was produced by cecal ligation and puncture CLP. After 6 hours IL-6 IL-1β and arterial blood lactic levels in blood were determined and the tissues of lung and liver were harvested for histopathological analysis. RESULTS Compared with SO group IL-6 IL-1β and lactic levels in blood were increased P < and there were obvious pathologic changes in the lung and liver tissues in SEP group. Compared with SEP group IL-6 IL-1β and lactic levels in blood were all increased P < and there were more pathologic changes in the lung and liver tissues in Atr group. Compared with SEP group IL-6 IL-1β and lactic levels in blood were all decreased P < and the lung and liver tissue pathologic changes were slighter in Gal group. Atropine would offset such effects. CONCLUSION Galantamine might reduce the inflammation of sepsis by the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. METHODS The study was carried out on 50 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing g which were divided into five groups i control n = 10 ii I /R n = 10 iii I /R + Pinocembrin 1 mg /kg n = 10 iv I /R + Pinocembrin 3 mg /kg n = 10 v I /R + Pinocembrin 10 mg /kg n = 10. Focal cerebral ischemia / reperfusion rats were induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion MCAO for 2 h followed by 6 h reperfusion. Pinocembrin was administered in doses 1 mg /kg 3 mg /kg 10 mg /kg respectively at the same time of onset of reperfusion. Then the blood NSE and S-100β were determined in addition to observe the pathological change of hippocampus penumbra cortex and corpus striatum respectively. RESULTS Pinocembrin-treatment 3 mg /kg or 10 mg /kg significantly suppressed the levels of blood NSE and S-100β and improved the morphology of brain cortex striatum and hippocampus of acute focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion 10 mg /kg. CONCLUSION Pinocembrin has neuroprotective effects to prevent brain ischemia / reperfusion acute injury. KEY WORDS Pinocembrin acute cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury NSE S100-β
