Abstract Males are Susceptible to Unrequited Love: Development of the Benefits and TsukasaKATO The author describes the development and validation of the Benefits of Unrequited Love ScaleBULSand the CULS, which are designed to assess benefits and costs of unrequited love. The results from exploratory factor analyses with Japanese university students provide evidence for a stable -factor structure of the BULS and the CULS. The author demonstrates that men are more influenced by unrequited love than women. In addition, the author reports that the benefits and costs of unrequited love are related to narcissistic personality, coping behavior with a broken heart, love addiction, and well-being. 126
