Summary During their lifetime, women experience female-specific subjective symptoms and general malaise such as menopausal symptoms, functional dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, postpartum depression, autonomic dysfunction due to the biological background of fluctuating female hormones and the psychological and social background of their individual life styles. The impairment in the quality of life QOL due to these symptoms and malaise cannot be sufficiently managed by traditional health care focusing on diseases in specialized medical disciplines. A comprehensive lifetime health care model that takes into consideration female-specific health issues and life events is required. Previous studies by the author suggest that knowing the relationship between the personality of patients and their complaints of subjective symptoms helps to implement more effective management of subjective symptoms and general malaise in women in menopausal periods. In this study, we focus on menstruation-related symptoms dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome in young women as research subjects, and analyzed the relationship between the types and severity of symptoms and the gender role and interpersonal relation tendency of the subjects. To accomplish total care of women in the early period of sexual maturation, we examined the possibility of using psychological indicators representing gender roles and interpersonal relationships to predict the pattern of symptom expression, thereby contributing to improved self-care by young women.
