Sanno University Bulletin Vol. No. September Social Influences and Legal Issues of Google Street View Hiroshi Takada In this paper, I present some social influences and legal issues of Google Street View. Google Street View was launched on Aug th, in Japan as a function of Google Map. We are able to see and enjoy landscapes and street views of public roads in the main cities on our own PCs. However, privacy problems and other legal issues on Street View are indicated by some public authorities and local governments, for example, the Machida City Council, the Tokyo Information Disclosure and Protection of Individual Information Council, etc. In terms of these issues, Google Inc. insists that the image of Street View is a view from public roads, therefore, there is no privacy issue with it. However, if a privacy issue is reported, they delete the images which the user reports. I verify the social influence and judicial problems of Street View, and discuss how to resolve these issues from legal stand points of view.
