Grammar Review( 文法の復習 )(5-10 mins) no more than vs not more than The difference in the usage of no more than and not more than is hardly distinguishable. Examples: The product costs no more than $500. The product costs not more than $500. In the examples above, there s not much difference. Both sentences still keep the limit to $500. No more than is less on equivalency. Looking at Example 1, the product costs at most $500. It could cost less. On the other hand, not more than emphasizes more the limit or restriction. In Example 2, the product costs less than $500. It should not cost more than the said limit. no less than vs. not less than As for the usage of no less than and not less than, the concept is the same. Examples: The product costs no less than $500. The product costs not less than $500. In the set of examples above, no less than means it only costs $500 or more. In the second example, the lower limit ($500) is clearly defined. It could be more but never less than $500. $300 $500 $800 not more than/ no more than / no less than/ not less than Page 3
